Karis is the first place I have lived where I not only feel comfortable but do so while improving my mental and physical health. I feel seen by the staff and fellow residents. Karis Community offers a community-oriented residential program for adults managing serious and persistent mental illness as well as co-occurring substance use disorders. The Empowerment Program prepares individuals to re-engage productively in the larger community, reduce hospitalizations, and live independently. Our mission is to provide a community where people heal together.
Karis is 50 Years Old!
Thanks to the incredible generosity of our community, Karis Community’s 50 Years of Hope & Healing spring fundraiser was a tremendous success. Held at the beautiful Denver Museum of Nature & Science, the evening brought together supporters, alums, staff, Community Members, and friends to celebrate five decades of hope, healing, and belonging.
Guests enjoyed a meaningful evening filled with connection, inspiring stories, auctions, community engagement, and museum access, all while helping raise critical funds to support Karis’ Empowerment Program and future trauma-informed infrastructure upgrades. We are deeply grateful to everyone who attended, donated, sponsored, volunteered, bid in the auction, and helped make this milestone celebration so special. Thanks to all of you, we raised nearly $120,000! A record for Karis Community!
For 50 years, Karis has remained committed to creating a compassionate community where individuals can heal, grow, and move toward greater independence. We look forward to continuing this mission together for many years to come.

Karis is the only therapeutic community of its kind in the region and one of only a few nationwide. Through the generous support of donors, we can offer our program for as low as $685 per month, making it an affordable option for many. The Empowerment Program provides individual check-ins, six weekly support group meetings, evening community meals, household supplies, utilities, onsite peer support, and mental health services. Private treatment centers comparable to Karis often cost upwards of $ 10,000 per month, resulting in inaccessibility for individuals with lower incomes. Without Karis, many Community Members would be stuck in cycles of instability, further perpetuating what often feels like unmanageable situations.
