The LGBTQIA+ population has a significantly higher risk for mental health challenges. 24% of Community Members identified as LGBTQIA+ in the fiscal year 2024-2025. NAMI

Mental illness is twice as prevalent among individuals with low incomes. Karis Community addresses this through stable housing, daily structure, and long-term community. NIH

Affordability & Accessibility

Karis is one of the most affordable therapeutic communities in Denver. For $685 per month, Community Members receive housing, meals, utilities, household supplies, and programming. Comparable programs often cost $10,000 or more per month, making Karis uniquely accessible.

We collaborate with trusted partners including WellPower, Jefferson Center for Mental Health, AllHealth Network, Heartland Mental Health, Community Reach Center, and Colorado Coalition for the Homeless to ensure comprehensive, coordinated care.

How Long Do Community Members Stay?

Community Members commit to six months’ participation and may stay up to two years at Karis, providing the much-needed longevity and stability needed to grow and succeed. A typical Community Member lives at Karis for an average of 18 months and then moves on to independent living. Success in this transition is directly related to greater independent living skills and the development of a personal support system.

Karis’ Transitional Living House: The Stepping Stone Cottage

Since 2015, Karis has operated the Stepping Stone Cottage, a meaningful continuation of care that has supported program graduates for nearly a decade, helping them build on their progress at Karis and take important steps toward lasting independence. The Cottage provides housing for seven alums who are ready to practice the coping and life skills they gained at Karis in a less-structured environment. It offers affordable housing, continuity of care, stability, social integration, reduced risk of homelessness, and crisis prevention. A Peer Specialist resides onsite, serving as both a Peer and a Property Manager to support these individuals as they continue their journey toward independence, with a focus on empowering residents to achieve stability and self-sufficiency.

Support After Graduation:
The Alumni Group

We understand that recovery is not a linear journey and are dedicated to providing necessary support even after completion of the program. The Alumni Group offers weekly support meetings facilitated by one of Karis’s Peer Support Specialists. Alums can also meet with the Executive Director or the Program Manager for individual check-ins and ongoing or as-needed case management support.

The beauty of Karis Community is that the relationships you develop with the staff and residents don’t end when you move out. I have had many of my friends from Karis calling me to check in and see how I am doing and make plans to be together. – Karis Community Alumni
